Healing to Thriving

After graduating from college, I taught English in Japan for ten years. During this time, I became very interested in martial arts. After about 8 years of practice, I began to understand that my teachers were using energy (ki, or qi) in their various martial arts. I began to ask questions about how this energy applies to techniques. One great mentor explained that energy practice can be used both in martial arts, as well as to bring balance and to heal.

Due to enthusiastic martial arts training, I accumulated injuries, especially to the joints: knees, hips, elbows, etc. At one point, I was walking up stairs slowly, one step at a time. To recover from martial arts injuries, I had the great good fortune to study Seitai (Tuina) under Akira Sakata in Arao City, Japan.

I returned to the United States and graduated from the Vermont Law & Graduate School, and passed the New York Bar. I moved to France and graduated from the Université de Clergy-Pontoise with a Master’s in French and European Business L, and passed the Paris Bar.

One of many nights, I was working late at my law firm, looked out the window at the Eiffel Tower, and came to the conclusion that was living someone else’s dream. I am more suited to a life in the countryside, working with and exploring Chinese Medicine.

Home in Vermont, I began studying Chinese Energetic Medicine under Dr. Pat Bardone, DMQ. I also studied a more wholistic approach to life and health under Megan Assaf. In 2024, I graduated from a doctoral program in Chinese Energetic Medicine under Dr. Jerry Alan Johnson.

I currently teach qigong with Californiaqigong.com
